Supporting Broken Records in Edinburgh

broken-records-press-shotThis is pretty cool. We’ve liked Broken Records for ages, and now we’re supporting them at Edinburgh’s best new old venue, La Belle Angele. They’re rocky indie folky stuff, not a million miles off us. They’ve toured the UK, Europe and the USA, played Glastonbury and Latitude and toured with The National, Editors and The Black Keys. And for their September 19th hometown gig, we get to share a stage (and a drum kit) with them.

Here’s the vid of their latest single, I Won’t Leave You In The Dark. And here’s the gig info for 19th September. Incidentally Dave from 2nd support band Hagana recorded our latest EP. And we played at La Belle Angele a couple of months ago, and the sound is a proper treat – and it’s a great space. Should be a cracking gig.

ISLE OF WIGHT FESTIVAL – Sun 14th
Hard Rock Stage 4:30pm
http://www.isleofwightfestival.com/

Yup, we’re playing on the Hard Rock Stage, one of the three main stages at this 58,000-capacity festival. John Giddings himself has been in touch to confirm we’ll be playing on the weekend, and we can’t wait.

How did this happen? It’s thanks to a few people, starting with…
…GABY ROSLIN
We were playing on a London street corner in a residential area, warming up for a gig having been thrown out of the park. A certain radio presenter stopped to listen, on her way back from school with her daughters. She invited us on her show, and liked us enough to invite us back a second time. Then live on air, she persuaded her friend…
…MONKEY (Caroline Monk)
to let us play at Koko, at the Isle of Wight Reunion Gig she was to host on 1st September 2014. She did, we did, and it was ace. During sound check we met…
…JOHN GIDDINGS
The man behind IoW was standing in the wings whilst we were sound-checking. He liked our sound and invited us to play at Official Isle of Wight Festival 2015.

Wish us luck…

EP: The Beast With Two Backs! Launch gig 1st May with Black Diamond Express & Delighted Peoples…

King Eider The Beast With Two Backs Edinburgh band

Yes, it’s here! Our EP, The Beast With Two Backs is out on 1st May 2015 on New Pupil Music. You can get your limited edition CD here. To celebrate, we’re having a big gig at The Caves in Edinburgh, with fantastic support from Black Diamond Express, (web & Facebook) a blues / folk 8-piece who are bloody amazing live. Check this out for starters – Every Night Around This Time. The night kicks off with doors at 7:00, then Delighted Peoples open with their soul-infused trip-hop.

We’ll be playing the tracks from the EP, as well as all sorts of treats you’ve not heard before. And maybe the odd song you might recognise from last year’s album The Deeper The Water. After our set, it’s still party time til late with DJs to keep us all dancing.

The Facebook event is here and you can buy your tickets here – £6 adv. See you there!

The making of FIRE… the cameraman speaks

photo 4 (1)

Since people seem have been commenting a lot on the cinematography of our new video for FIRE (which has had 1,300 youtube views in 5 days, 50 shares on Facebook), here’s more about how it was made. Mike Simpson of MJS Collective – www.mjscollective.com – was the man behind the camera. He says…

“The camera we used was the new Arri Amira with Cooke Mini s4i lenses. We used only natural light, so nothing artificial. The fire scene on the beach pushed the camera to its limit – it was seeing into the dark past what the human eye can see, which for lesser cameras can become too ‘noisy’. This is the term we use when the cameras sensor sensitivity is pushed high and creates a kind of fuzz on the image and looses sharpness like old film grain but not as aesthetically pleasing. But this camera was very good due to Arri’s R&D on their sensors. We’re really pleased with the results.”
